EOTD: Moxie

Meaning “courage”, originally from the name of a bitter non-alcoholic drink first introduced in 1885 by the brand Moxie, and as far back as 1876 “or some” {or some such, though in speach I usually shorten it to “or som”, same as or something, and I usually type how I speak} as the name of a patented medicine designed to “toughen up (sic) you nerve”

Comes from Algonquin/Eastern Abenaki (native Americans in the US Maine coastal area), where moxie meant ‘dark water’
