EOTD: Aberration

From latin aberrationem (nominative aberratio), meaning “a wondering”, the noun form of the stem verb aberrare, meaning “to wonder, to go astray”, literally constructed from the latin ab- (“off, away from”) + errare, “roam, rove, stray”.

Literal meaning “act of straying/wandering”, evolved into “something that strayed from the norm” is attested circa 1730.
